Is this just too small of a market for FI conversion?

I was kinda idly musing while looking at this carb rack. It occurred to me that it looks like it wouldn't be that hard to convert the carbs to FI throttle bodies. Sure, you'd have to block off a bunch of passages, but that's a matter of a few screws. The bores where the big brass cylinders are about the size of an injector that GM and Bosch FI systems use. A cylindrical insert with some O-rings would make a perfect fit. The enrichment valve bores could probably be used for idle air control with a remote IAC valve, like old Volvos used.

Granted, this is just speculation. Still, I'm wondering why there isn't a FI kit. Seems like these engines would adapt to it fairly well. Is there just no money in it? Or is there some insurmountable technical problem?

FI has been done several times on this board. The Pumba project comes to mind. Though not exactly in the way you describe it.

Really once the carbs are cleaned and dialed in they just work. No wires going bad or sensors not reading properly..... I'll stop there before my dislike of electronic engine control really starts to show through.

Thought about it and found it was not practical to modify the carbs to suit.

Even without trying to machine out the venturi, it would be a poor setup.

Someone needs to make a dedicated bolt up replacement. The other thing about injection is mounting injectors is only a very small part of what is needed.

I was serious when I evaluated the idea:

Not a new idea to convert a carb to a FI body. This guy has been doing it for a few years for the V-Max.

Not realy cost effictive. How many of us would invest 1500$ or more for a FI system on a bike that only cost 1000$( or less in most cases)
