issues whit transmition 550

    well im from mexico and i am not very good at english, so.
    well i have an issue whit my transmition of my seca 550 1980
    the problem is when i am riding i want to shift down and it doesnt shift. so it feels like when you are in 1st gear and pull down you feel like ´free´ the shifter. so when i am riding and a shift back to another gear it feel like free´, its more comun from 4th gear to 3rh gear and freom 2nd to first. i dont know if i explain mi issue? well i hope you can helpme whit this

    The shifter mechainsm is a "mousetrap" located BEHIND the clutch. You could have a broken spring in that mechanism.

    It also sounds from your description more like a possible problem with the clutch itself.

    Here is a link to the USA-market parts microfiche so you can look at the shifter mechanism: Look in the 1981 XJ550RH listing, under "SHIFT SHAFT-PEDAL" and you'll see what I'm talking about. Parts #1 through #7 are located on the right side of the bike, behind the clutch. Only the shaft and lever (and spacers) are on the left side.
