Does anyone the correct jet sizes that should be used on a XJ650 when fitted with K&N filters? The guys at my local shop seem a bit clueless :(

If the 650 is like the 700 I got for air box and head and what not ... I'll try ~6 (add 15 to the main jet number) sizes bigger, I'd also try 1 #4 washer under needle. Available at lowes/HD. #4's are 1/2mm thick and are ~ 4mm outer diameter. BTW you doing a pipe too right. K&N pod types with stock pipe will be a hard to jet combo ... from past experience with GS500's. GS's with pipe and pod K&N's we run 10-11 larger mains. But its one plugged up bike to begin with ... :( ... The maxim seemed a lot better ...
    Cool.

On my bike, I've got a K&N filter in the stock airbox, and an aftermarket MAC 4-into-1 exhaust.

When I put the jet kit in, we went from the stock 112 mains to 116's. We also had to drill the sliders for airflow (as listed in the directions with the jet kit). My kit also included adjustable replacement needles, which are set to about the mid-height.

Quite nice - haven't had to play around with it since we installed it 2 years ago.

    I was talking no kit.
I usually jet them without a kit. Also air box K&N and pipe is ~ 1 size up from stock. Kits typically come with needles that have a much thinner profile ... and hence a smaller main jet behaves like much larger. Jet needle drops into the main jet, and reducing it is like increasing the main.
In a GS, DJ kit for a stock GS is a 118. A stock GS comes with 122.5 in it from the factory and it horribly horribly lean. Swap the needles for the kit needles and promptly the bike gets so far rich ... its un rideable.
My suggestion was for a stock needle. AKA ... no kit.
    Cool.
