Simple question: what sizes of JIS screwdrivers are the most useful for XJ work?

I tried to source these drivers around here today but they're nowhere to be found, even in specialized stores, so I will have to order them on the web. I'm not quite sure if I will need sizes 0, 1 and 2 or sizes 1, 2 and 3.

NOt even sure if I would prefer only bits or full screwdrivers, maybe better buy both of them?

I made my kids buy me a set for Christmas.

It includes a #00, #0, #1, #2 and a really long #2. For the few #3's there are (ignition cover and maybe a bracket,) you can just file the point off a standard Phillips. (Truth be told, all my phillips screwdrivers are in pairs; one with the tip knocked off, and one as delivered.) Real JIS screwdrivers are critical for carb work though.

I get the most use out of all of them except the 00. Lots of JIS cross-point screws on these bikes.

Plus, I got some decent but inexpensive flat screwdrivers, and filed them to perfectly fit the few "flat applications" we have, and dedicated them to my "Jap bike" tool section.

    I'd do the 0, 1, 2 set.

    Umm...

    Hush now.

Yes, buzz the tips correctly and you've got it; except inside carbs, especially Mikunis. I've used "poor mans' JIS drivers for years; the real thing does work just a bit better. It's what I call "Oscar Meyer Syndrome" in some cases the name brand is just better than the generic.

i go for the Nathan's when i can find them, Oscar's seem to have a little too much something for me. Ball Park's are unnatural, no meat swells when you cook it !

I'll have to agree there; Nathan's cooked over coals with some Tony Packo's chili and it really doesn't get any better.

The "Oscar Meyer" thing is more of just an expression.

All right, thanks guys. I'll probably order some on ebay or directly from Vessel.

Whoa, that brings back memories. My hand impact driver is a Vessel, I've had it for at least 40 years. In its little blue enameled box with bits.
