I have been working on a 1982 XJ750 Maxim I picked up in August of 2010. This is in part a high school project and also my attempt to gain some knowledge about engines and motorcycles in general coming from a background of very little technical know how. It's my first bike and I CANNOT wait to ride it around.

    So far I have:
Finished the carb clean and rebuild that the P.O. started
    Replaced spark plugs
    Replaced fuses
    Removed the sissy bar
Cleaned various gunk off mirrors, pipes etc.

    In progress:
    Fuel tap/petcock rebuild
Investigating to why the bike thinKs that my side stand is always down

    In the (near) future:
Replacing the terribly rusted exhaust pipes
Inspecting and probably rebuilding the brakes

For now this is my to do list:

Did you use a 70's photo filter in photoshop or lots of dust on that camera lens?

    Just messing with you!

Not a bad bike to start with. Are those Mustangs in the background school projects too (I think its a 68 or 69 convertable and a 66 coup). I have a 68 coup in the driveway that my son is fixing up to drive to school for his sienior year. ( He already has a Nighthawk 450 that he brought back to life). Good luck with your project. Be sure to post lots of pictures as you go. (I always forget to take any)

    Thanks all!
Metal_Bob- Cell phone pictures, but close. Maybe club dues can go towards new cameras lol.
tcoop- The coup is my friend's project. I don't have a garage so my buddy's family is nicely letting me use theirs. I'm almost positive it's a 69 convertible, that's his dad's. It runs beautifully but the old fart never drives it :/ Definitely lots of pictures too, the school requires I prove that I'm actually doing stuff.
skillet- hahaha I'll go wipe my brain when I'm done replying and stick with other four letter words.

Hey, wanted to shoot a question out there.
The display is telling me the side stand is down even when I'm sure it isn't so I searched around and found out that a dirty safety switch is a fairly common problem. Can anyone tell me how to get the casing off of the switch? I unscrewed it from the bike but saw no way to get at the insides. Thanks!
