Ive got one cylinder not firing. its got spark and compression, haven't put a gauge on it ( what should it be). pulled the carbs the look pretty dirty, kits are on the way. read about the cluck test and carb cleaning great articles. it will run on three cyl. also a bit of gas in the oil. drained and replaced that. pretty nice shape for only 400 bucks. dosent like to go in to neutral when its running tried tightening the clutch cable but no success. odo says 6500

Could have clutch issues from gas in the oil. May clear up with fresh oil.

Check the rear brakes for delamination

Do the compression test. The acutal number isn't as important as the relationship to the other cylinders so do all 4.

Unplug your TCI while doing the test. Post your numbers.

    My 81 650 read 155 +/- a couple psi last I did it.

    Nice find.

Go through and read the articles in the link posted above.

6500 miles means it's just a puppy yet; it also means you're going to have a LOT of work to do to reverse the deterioration from all the sitting.

However, once you've gone thru it, you'll have a new old bike. And a nice one at that-- the 550s are a barrel of fun.
