I've been a member here for about 2 months. I've been looking for an older bike to start with and the community here cemented me into an XJ.

Looking at other communities, even other Yamaha bike communities you would think a specific model cured cancer, did community outreach and fed homeless kittens every time you filled the gas tank.

The absolute angst this community holds against their bikes while having an absolute love for them is really endearing. The community here is realistic about to expect out of a 30+ year old bike.

So I bought two. Both are 1985 XJ700 Maxims. Picked up the pair for $800. One of them is well maintained and road ready. The other starts and runs, but is missing pieces to take a ride. (IE - Seat and Clutch Cable.)

I plan on riding one and working on the other, then when I get one finished I'll swap.

I do R&D for a company in Virginia. Mainly electronics, but I've gotten very comfortable with composite fabrication due to the work. I really like the look of the cafe conversions so I may wind up doing some custom seat work in carbon fiber.

Feel free to advise as necessary.

Closest one is the "project bike." One in the back is full up on inspection and runs like a dream.

Both are titled. In PA... Picked them up in the Coal Region. (Where I'm from.) I live in Winchester, VA. Right now, all I need is a fuse block because the one that runs is an electronic abortion.

Need to get the papers changed over.
