    I realize there are many threads devoted to new comers that are "how-tos" for maintenance and rebuilding.

    I thought it would be fun to have a thread dedicated to "Quick tips/Lessons learned" that might provide handy tips, but are not comprehensive maintenance instructions.

    To get started:

    I wish I had learned in 1985 when I bought my XJ, that the screws are NOT Philips, but JIS. I would have saved a lot of stripped heads by using the cheap JIS screwdriver that came in the Yamaha toolkit.
