Just got my 82 xj550. Want to fill me in?

    I have been a sport bike guy since forever. Then surfing the net lastnight I came up on a deal I could'nt pass. And wanting to build something different for a while now I called and picked the 1982 maxim 550 up all within 3 hours from seeing it to putting it in the garage.

    Now you know my short story with the bike. I was informed it had a massive oil leak from the fron sproket area. Now if this is normal or anyone have experience with something like this? And anything else I should know about these bikes. just fill me in. I have been seaching (How I found this site) and will continue to look

    Hello & welcome, I've never heard of a masive oil leak being normal, not even BP would say that. lol.

    There is a seal behind the front sprocket and a seal on the shifter shaft. Clean this area run the bike and see where the oil is coming from. Post results then we can go from there. Welcome to the form.
