What kind of 1/4 mile, 0-60, 0-100, top speed, etc. numbers would one see from an XJ1100? And/or a Seca 900?

    '83 Seca 900R:

    Standing ¼ Mile

    11.8 sec / 112.3 mp/h
    Top Speed

    132.5 mp/h
    --------------------------

Surprising... I thought the 650 Maxim has about that same top speed (128mph?). But apparently I was wrong; top speed 120. Huh.

No matter where I looked, I could not find specs for the XJ1100 on speed. The XS, however, the standard, which looks a lot better to me, had the following:

    Standing ¼ Mile

    11.7 sec / 114.2 mp/h 183.8 km/h
    Top Speed

    126 mp/h 202.8 km/h

Interesting... Just barely faster on the 1/4 mile, but a tad lower top speed. Rear wheel perhaps?

    Another Question

How similar/different is something like an '86 FJ1100 to our XJ's? All I can tell is that it's an inline four with a very different frame design (easier to adjust valves? What else would that affect?). Anyone have knowledge on that? Say, if we compared:

    XJ900 Seca & FJ1100

    What would be worth noting?

    http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/ ... r%2083.htm

    The speed is noticeable:
    1/4 mile:
    XJ900--11.8 @ 112
    FJ1100--10.7 @ 125

    Top speed:
    XJ900--132
    FJ1100--146

Weight (!) (Dry) (almost the same! amazing):
    XJ900--480 lb
    FJ1100--501 lb

    Peak HP (!):
    XJ900--97
    FJ1100--125

    Carbs:
    XJ900--35mm Mikuni
    FJ1100--BS36 Mikuni

    Valves:
    XJ900--2 valve per cylinder
    FJ1100--4 valve per cylinder

    XJ is shaft driven,
    FJ is chain driven.

Reviews of the FJ1200 seemed to indicate that it was just an over-bored FJ1100, which added only 2mph to the top speed but did give better pull throughout (especially in mid-range). Seems like it had a bit of vibration; on the other hand, it was being compared to two other superbikes of the day... Looking at FJ1100 info, it acts like the 1200 was just a minor improvement all around from the 1100. Would be nice to get to ride both and feel for myself.
    -------------

What I'm really curious about is more design questions, and how much knowledge from XJ's will transfer over, how much will be new. I've just been thinking long term about what I'd like my next bike to be after a year or two. What would the big differences be?

Does anyone know of an FJ forum?

In other news: changed out a dead tachometer bulb, swapped ignition key-hole, and installed blinkers tonight! Full perfect dash now, bike has one key all over now, and blinkers work a treat--even the auto-cancel works!]
