Easy Schooter! She's a big bike and a feisty one at that! You should steer clear for a little while. We want you to graduate from high school and the odds would be against you big time with an R1. Yeeee Haaaaah. It would be fun to have but man that's a lot of power to have to control.

I personally would be the laughing stock of the crotch rocket world. "In a related story a crotch rocket rider was seen repeatedly driving his bike with both wheels on the ground and strangely enough he was going the speed limit" Get the picture?

That's a real good deal. You should post some pictures.
Luckily for you, parts are plentiful for them. Depending on the damage, instead of restoring it, you could look into street fightering it...a la:

As I reread your post it occured to me that what YOU should do for Me is find me a mid to late '80's BMW k100 RS or RT with around 30,000 miles or so on it. I'd be willing to pay up to $250 for one in good mechanical shape! I think you're going to hear a lot from folks who are envious of your awesome buy. Poor Schooter probably hasn't been able to catch his breath since he first read your post!

Congratulations again on your great buy!
