That much closer to reassembly! With this weather it is killing me to not be riding!

Picked up a new HVLP gun last night from lowe's. Happened to be there getting plastic, tape and a few other supplies. Decided to look at the guns - their $97 gun was marked down to $53, then a bit more to $45. half price - but I think they messed up. Decent gun for my needs, and MUCH less wasted overspray. I'll throw some picks up once the air clears.

Here's the frame. If you look close you'll notice that there is a thin spot towards the back of the frame on the top. Thought I hit the whole thing pretty good too...

    Oddball,
HVLP stands for High Volume Low Pressure.
It's a spray gun you hook up to an air compressor.

Thanks! - I'm pleased overall but wish I would have noticed the thin spots. I'm going to put on another coat tonight. I used Omni AU - a "cheap" line from ppg.

I definitely like the hvlp gun compared to my gravity feed gun - much nicer results!

it real is shiny...there was no sanding or buffing involved? i thought about spraying my frame but i thought the amount of sanding and buffing to get a good shine would be....alot.

    S!

thnx for the HU (heads up) I think i had one if it is the gun with the can on the bottom...never got around to using it :( i was told the gravity fed ones were batter for consistency but i am beginning to learn that nothing really seems tobe written in stone :)

dmsch just wondering, along the same lines as oddball, what your frame was like before the coat of paint went on?

    Frame looks great!

Thanks! It really did turn out quite nice - the paint gods were smiling on me that day :D

I took it down to bare metal using a wire wheel on my grinder. From there, I used a prep & etch solution, followed by a water rinse, then a light wipe down with acetone once the water dried. Besides the hvlp gun, I think the single most important factor was the very low humidity the day I shot it. I sprayed the first coat of primer, let it dry about 30 - 45 minutes, followed by two top coats with about 10 minutes flash time inbetween. The picture doesn't really do the smoothness justice - I'll post a few pics of the frame on my picasa site tomorrow and share the link.

On the day I did the tank & side covers though the gods were very angry. lots-o-wet sanding later they're now ready for for another try!

No wet sanding or buffing at all on the frame - the picture was taken shortly after the paint had dried.
