I have an 82 xj1100 and i keep blowing the headlight fuse. I switched out the old set of handlebars and dash setup along with em. I got all the wiring hooked back up and everything went good. Took her out today and after a few minutes, noticed I had no dash or headlights. Switched out the fuse and gave it another go. She goes for a while, then pops the fuse again. I think (but by no means positive on this) that it's happening when I use the kill switch to cut the motor. Put the multi meter to the headlight contacts and I'm pulling 12.3 amps while not running. I hate electrical and this is driving me nuts. I pull less juice when i'm not plugged into the reserve lighting unit, but doing that turns the high beam indicator on and leaves it that way. I can plug in ONE of the wire to the RLU and fix the indicator issue, but will it cause bigger problems in the future?

    Need help guys.

well if it worked before you swapped the dash and now it blows fuses there's a good chance somethings not hooked up right.
since it takes awhile to pop you might have something hooked to the headlight fuse that should be on another fuse.
if you pull the headlight fuse i bet you find something goes off that shouldn't

What I believe he was trying to say, as explained above, was retrace YOUR steps.

It does indeed sound like you inadvertently caused the problem.
