I have decided not to restore the XJ550 Seca I recently got. My county clerk said I could apply for a title but I may not be granted one. I'm out of work and don't have the money to fix it and don't have the room to store it. I am going to keep the motor and some odd and ends. So if any one needs any thing make me a reasonable offer and pay shipping and it's yours. The carbs have been completely rebuilt, all they need are new float bowl gaskets and float valve assy. I am going to order those and run the motor before I dismantle it from the frame.

Too bad man, that was a really cool looking bike. And you got it for the right price.

I know. I'd make you an offer on the whole bike if you were closer....

Sent you PM. But you know, for $74.00 you can get a Vermont registration and plate via mail. Don't need to be a resident or physically be there to register it. Plate is good for a year. After that you can use the Vt registration to get a title from your state. I will post a link once I find it.

    Here's the link.

there are other costs involved for doing that through Vermont, as far as I have learned.

It would have cost me around $300 or so by the time all the fees were paid to register a frame there. Not gonna happen.

    YMMV

Not sure what your circumstances where, but you can see from the link above I have a photo of the plate and registration. I think I explained the costs in the thread. It cost $44.00 for the plate and registration, the other $30.00 was the tax (total $74.00). Tax is 6% of the sale price. I only paid $275.00 for the bike but you are taxed on a minimum of $500.00 purchase price tax basis. Therefore, that is where the $30.00 tax came in. In trasher's case he got the bike for free. So he would only have to pay on the $500.00 tax basis. Therefore, he only pays the $30.00 tax and the $44.00 registration / plate fee.

I would add that when I transferred the registration to a Fl title, I got reamed for $90.00 with no plates. I should have waited until the Vt registration was ready to expire.

mtnbikecrazy55, It had none, no surprise there. I don't want to fool with all the hassle with registration, thanks for the link.

Interesting........the Vt. DMV site gave me a whole list of forms that had to be filled out, and a series of charges and fees that I'd have to pay.

Maybe they were giving me a snowjob just to see what I'd pay. So far, they've gotten nothing.

How clean are the head pipes?

Do you have any idea how many miles might be on it?
