Thank you up-front for any assistance.

I have a brand new NOS Kerker 4:1 exhaust. What carb setting works, it seems a little cold-blooded now.

Try backing out all 4 mixture screws about 1/8 turn, and then read the plugs.

6K miles? Did it get its initial valve check at 3000?

Thank you! I'll try the carb adjustment.

I'm not sure about the valve check. I just purchased it and the PO put the Kerker on. I better get that done too I guess.

If it hesitates when you give it throttle and has a spot under acceleration where it should be going faster than it is try shimming the needles. Also you will probably need to up the main a couple, depending. Do a search on here and there is a lot of info on jetting (some useful... ) and welcome to the site.

    Thanks streetbrawler.

I wonder if I should put a different exhaust on that doesn't require other adjustments?

    Any opinion on that?

Depends on you, if you don't want to mess with anything you could go back to stock. I wouldn't because 4-1 sounds awesome in my opinion.

Everything requires adjustments. Some big some small.

Where are you located? Someone may be close by to help.

I'm in Universal City, Texas, just NE of San Antonio. I've actually put an ad in Craigslist asking for a Yamaha mechanic to come and help. I'm a pretty good MC mechanic, but my other bikes are RDs. 4-strokes are new to me. I'll learn as I go.

I do love the sound of the Kerker and it's a spanking new NOS pipe, 27 years old....crazy!

To start with are your carbs completely clean? You can't tune properly with dirty carbs. Also check the valves. Both should be easy jobs for anyone with mechanical experiance. Plenty of write ups here.

I will be cleaning the carbs very well. It seems a little daunting cracking the stack of carbs and cleaning them. I do not know where to get rebuild kits yet, but hopefully I'll figure that out.

I have an old aircooled Porsche 911 and I adjust my own valves, pull the engine for clutch work etcetera and work on my 2-stroke RDs and GT so I guess I can tackle this one. I actually bought it to ride and learn 4-strokes...went with a 4-cyl, 'bout as crazy as starting on a CBX, but I'm in the fire now.
