I'm a proud new owner of a 1981 xj650 maxim but there is no kick stand kill switch on the bike. There is no wires brackets or switch to be found. I also have a 1980 maxim for parts with no evidence of a kill switch. Did these bikes even have them? Help

No kickstand switches were installed before 1982 on your model of XJ.

Yes and no... if left down and a sharp leaned into left turn is made, there is a potential of bad things happening.

I drove away from a gas station once with mine down and a guy pulling in noticed the kickstand down - he darn near crawled out his window, yelling and pointing at it. My guess with his reaction was that either he or someone he knew had a bad situation with a left turn and an un-raised kickstand.

I just thought it was by passed or removed. When getting a safety certification all parts must be in good working order. But if the bike didn't come with one then the bike will pass.
