Maybe someone knows where to start on this..... I've got an xj550 seca and the blinkers will stay on forever once initiated. I know this bike has an auto cancel feature but it seems to be disabled. I checked my flasher relay and it is a 2 prong. Could this be it? Does this bike require the stock flasher relay to function properly? Is it a 3 prong?

Also the kickstand switch is not killing the motor. Not sure how to test this to find out where the fault is at. Any help would be awsome.

Pick don't know about the auto cancel on the 550s, but if it looks like a cheapo(not huge brown) relay, it won't have auto cancel.

As far as the kickstand switch, you could test for continuity across it with a multimeter. Try it in both opened and closed positions. If it is something physical(a part missing) you'd notice that the switch isn't being tripped.

Search for a 550 wiring diagram, and it will make it was easier to troubleshoot.

for the turn signals you need a three wire flasher and the auto cancel is a separate box with five wires plugged into it. the schematic is the same for most if not all the xj series bikes.

the kickstand switch will prevent the starter from operating, but I don't think it will interrupt a running motor.

As for the flashers, the autocancelling unit is the odd long one.
The flasher relay should be 3 prong, but if PO has put LEDs or globes with less resistance, then you'll need an electronic flasher relay (designed for LEDs)
or you could add some resistors or something.

I think PO bought a new flahser relay to fix the problem withotu paying attention to the fine print.

Basic upshot, old flashers need resistance, LEDs (or smaller bulbs) dont have enough of it, no flashing ensues.

Theres an interactive wiring diagram on the xjbikes wikidot.

Sidestand will cause the safety circuit (if it is functioning correctly) to ground the ignition signal sent to the coils, killing the engine, if the bike is in gear (regardless of the clutch position). This is to prevent you from taking of with the sidestand down.

I went through this with both my bike a few months back, and both of them had that wire from the TCI that grounds out the ignition disconnected. Again, these were on a Turbo Seca and 750, but that one wire basically disabled the entire ignition safety circuit. Here's that thread

Sure it will. Start the motor, leave the stand down, and drop it in gear. It will (should, anyway) immediately shut the motor off.

In my case, this will prompt my kid (on the back) to holler "stand!"

My bad, misinterpreted the wiring diagram.

great I will need to order up a stock replacement 3 prong flasher relay. Hopefully that will solve the flasher not auto canceling. I have already forgotten the kickstand down twice!! Really think I need to get that kill system working before I end up hurting myself. Feels stupid but I for some reason after waiting a while to warm the bike I tend to forget.

Figured out the kickstand issue! The front sprocket cover plate was pinching over the wires at some point in the past. The wires were severed. Easy to fix. Now onto the blinker cancelation......Hoping just putting a 3 prong relay will solve it. Not sure why a 2 prong was put on it but that's what's on now.
