I had Kingsway for my insurance. They decided one day before my pre auth payments started, to jack my insurance 300 bux a year, and decided to take that 300 bux out in one big payment... i told em where they can stick their mysterious increase.

    </rant>

Guess my riding season is over till next spring.

I've been dealing with this crap with my old car insurance company, Bristol West. I paid in full for 6 months, then i got a letter in the mail about 4 weeks later saying I owed an additional $400 for the 6-month coverage. (Docs have already been signed and whatnot at this point, mind you). They then cancelled my policy and "refunded" me $26.00 of my $380 6-month payment, for 1 month of coverage.

If I knew where to find them I'd probably do something horrible to their employees.

Edit: Progressive has been great to me though, for both bike insurance and my (new) car insurance.

In British Columbia the province runs the insurance scam. You pay a lot but don't have all the mysterious charges. You get ripped of up front. How do the insurance companies get away with that? It seems criminal.

Sounds like the insurance is high to start with. I pay less than $200 USD a year for liability and theft. I skipped collision.

Edit: to clarify this is just for my bike I have a teenage driver and 4 cars so my policy total is staggering!

Personally I've got a horrid driving record. Something along the lines of 6 or 7 tickets (all for > 15 over, most for > 25 over) and 2 at-fault accidents.

Most of my tickets are starting to drop off my record finally, since they were in high school and I'm finally getting past the 5-year mark where they fall off, one at a time, but those accidents are kicking my butt on rates. That $380/6-months? Yeah. Liability/theft/uninsured only. no collision.

    Man that stinks KRS.
And the worst part is that they couldnt identify the reason for the increase.
I wish you the best of luck

Heres a tread I started in the spring on the same topic.

Sounds like the premiums differ between provinces quite a bit.
Maybe time for a move :)

I'm starting a new policy tomorrow with esurance for $105 a year. A couple of tickets and I'm a new driver. I was impressed with that rate. Almost went with Progressive, but they were just slightly more expensive (I think $119).

This has already been covered in another thread. There's no use comparing our rates in the States with our neighbors up north. Their rates for motorcycle insurance are usually twice as much.

I dont know about that steve. It depends on which company you are with......

Most folks like comparing insurance companies live WALMART vs TARGET, that is a uninformed comparison.
Insurance companies are everywhere and not all of them are great, some are excellent.

There are regional carriers(local and in specific areas for specific insurance solutions) and there are statewide/nationwide carriers(larger groups with plenty of money to pay large catastrophic claims)

Get stuck with some rinky-dink regional carrier that charges a 100% downpay...well good luck.
Tons of tickets/accidents makes you a HIGH RISK DRIVER, mainly because if you had bad luck drivin then, you will have bad luck driving now.

for bike insurance in the states, progressive/safeco/dairyland are good places to start. OR put ur bike insurance with the same company you have your home/auto.

MY CANADIAN BREATHREN, I FEEL FOR YOU. MOVE AWAY FROM THE COLD AND HIGH INSURANCE PRICES. MOVE TO NEW YORK EH!?

P.S. Texas, AND OTHER STATES THAT I DONT REMEMBER, dont "require" you to have insurance. They only require you to be financially responsible.
What this means....if you hate insurance, go and get a bond from your courthouse. As long as the minimum has been met all is good.

PSS I have been hit by uninsured buttholes, and I was left me to walk several miles to work in the rainest texas season before because I didnt have 5,000 to fix the damage.

It's not ALL gruesome up here in the Great White North. I paid $143 for the year, liability/theft, no collision. I'm in Alberta, so it's all private insurance here, not guv'mint.

And I'm still riding, so the weather hasn't gone completely in the crapper yet. I'm treating every ride as the last one of the year and enjoying every minute of it. It's a little cold in the mornings (right around freezing), but this afternoon it got up to 16 C (about 60 F), so there were a whole bunch of bikes out. Lots of smiling faces! :)
