Trying to determine a few things here... first: which set of carbs are these? (mikuni...etc) ; furthermore, I wanted to ask a veteran if these jets are in their correct places? Also, I wanted to know what those two jet-like structures are in the picture with the question mark. Sorry for asking all these questions; it just seems that all of the answers that are relevant to my questions are never accompanied by pictures...

They are Hitachi carbs, and the question marks are the air compensator jets.

Hitachi... hmm ok, awesome. Well that helps. Do you know if the jet orientation is correct? I bought this bike about two weeks ago and the previous owner informed me that he had the carbs rebuilt. WELLLL... I never trust anybody I buy bikes from, so I did a new cleaning and put everything back the way it was. Well, I realized that the jets that are on the top of the carburetors are swapped between the cylinders (as in two for two) Carb 1 and 3 have a different arrangement than carb 2 and 4. So I am trying to determine which is the correct orientation to replicate...

Also, do those floats look oriented correctly?

Actually, the fuel jets are correct. The air jets in pic 3 are reversed....Yep, floats look correct.

So the air jets in pic 3 are wrong? ... I dont mean to challenge judgement, but are you positive? I know there were some debate about inaccuracies in the haynes manual; so I dont know if I trust it lol.

For example, I do not know if Haynes ever revised the issue they had with jet placement on the hitachi carbs. If not, than haynes is still wrong and I will change the other air jets into the position that you say.

HSC32s looks like to me. And no, Haynes never made revisions, all printed 650/750 Haynes manuals have the incorrect placement.

So you concur on the incorrect jet placement in pic 3?

The only reason I am asking for verification is because the only cylinders that seem to run right are the ones with that orientation (in pic 3)!

Sorry, needed to elaborate. The pic is correct in the orientation. The manual is incorrect as Tskaz also noted. I found the same think on my 82 750. When I was taking the carbs apart, I found the air jets were reversed....amongst other hurdles.

Correct. The larger of the 2 sizes (205) is your pilot air jet.

The smaller size (50) is your main air jet.

In your pic the jets are located correctly.

Also, 650's used a 195 pilot air, 750s used a 205 pilot air, suggesting your set of carbs are:

    HSC32 Hitachi model for a Yamaha XJ750.

    Hope we cleared that up.
