As I now have my Turbo's motor totally ripped to shreds, in anticipation of putting it back togetherm, I'm trying to find gaskets.

Looks like bike bandit has gaskets for the four side covers and the valve cover. No head gasket though. In fact, I can't seem to find one anywhere. I had been hoping that the gasket kits for regular XJs would be the same for the turbo. Some of the individual gaskets appear to be the same, but the head gaskets appear to be different part numbers.

Anyone know where to find a XJ650LK Head gasket?

At this point, I have not removed the heads so I guess I can live without it, but I'd sure like to have one.

Anyone know how hard it is to make a gasket? I've heard that you can buy gasket material and cut one out yourself. Anyone ever tried this?

    Thanks as always,

    Greg

Aw hell, I didn't realize this! I have a gasket for a maxim or NA Seca here in this set. I wonder if the thickness is the difference, or the steel reinforcing ring around the cylinder is different? Cripes..

I usually make my own gaskets cus I'm cheap but I wouldn't make a head gasket (unless you are talking about the cams cover). The head gaskets are metal reinforced and a specific thickness with a designed amount of crush.

I may cheat and pull the head and barrels as a unit, once the motor is out. Not ideal, but it beats trying to use an unsuitable gasket or trying to make one out of copper sheet.

Hey Geebake, the guys at TMIOA say the gasket is all metal and can be reused if it is not pitted or kinked. One guy says he has used the fiber gaskets with no problems, so we may be in luck.

I'd be very cautious reusing an old head gasket, they truely are not meant to be reused. If it is, in fact, all metal, reuse is an option though I would still angle for a new one. Best of luck fellows!
