I am trying to find a bikini/cafe type fairing for my bike, but is there a specific type used with Maxims?

I almost bought a universal one but when the bike shop tried to put it on they stated that my XJ700 headlight is mounted on the front and not on the side (I guess most bikes headlights are side mounted). Therefore it won't work, is there a bikini fairing or mounting kit the forum can recommend? Also including pic of fairing I am looking for.

Any types, specific models that are "good fits." Like I said even a it would be great, thoughts?

I don't have much in the way of info for you, but that looks bad ass! I have always liked the look of those "bubble" fairings, all the way back to the red Honda CB 750 Arnold stole in the first "Terminator" movie: www.lisashea.com/motorcycle/movies/term/arn1.jpg
    And maybe "Road Warrior"

I thought about getting one for my Maxim, which looks like the one in your pic, pretty much, but I like a more practical windshield, that's why I have the Hellfire on mine. But that picture makes me with I'd gone that route;)

Now, as far as your question, I know some fairings, like the Windjammer I had on my CB 750, have their own light. So, you might find one that will let you get rid of the stock light, I'm not sure about the Cafe style ones though. I don't know what they mean by "front mounted" vs. "side mounted" My light is on the front:) But the mounting bracket for the square light attaches at the side, so I assume yours has a round light with some different system? What bike are we talking about, exactly? That's an 82 in the bottom pic, like mine, but you are asking about an '85, right? Is this a Maxim X you have? I can't picture what an 85 XJ 700 is.

But anyway, I'm positive there is a way to mount one of these fairings, worst case scenario, you have to change headlights, which is no big deal in the bigger scheme of things.

Google Maier USA universal cafe/sport fairings. They make one for a square headlight.

    I have an 85 XJ700 Maxim.

I think your right, I need the kit to provide me with the mounting points, once I but those points I should be good-to-go yes?

From what I can tell, you should be able to mount the fairing that you pictured directly on those tabs.

I am contemplating adding a fairing to my maxim x. Give me something to tuck behind on the highway as well as make it look a little sportier.

Where is the one you posted pictures of from? Dang I like that look..

They show up under alot of names. Here's one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cafe-Racer-Styl ... 61&vxp=mtr Don't recall paying that much for it but I've had mine over a year now.

I think it makes a good difference. I'm 6'4" and wear a 58 jacket. To knock some wind off my chest was my goal. It does that. I don't fit entirely behind it though.

Mind posting a picture of your bike? I'm 5'11" but pretty tiny. Roads I ride you 'll get ran over if you're not doing 75 mph +. Having something to tuck with sounds wonderful plus I like the look!

That looks nice! Only problem is I'm planning on doing my bike pearl white... They don't seem to make a white "tinted" fairing. I may just paint it black instead...

It's just plastic. No reason you can't scuff it and paint it.

Mine came when it was already riding season and I just tossed it on and went with it. This year I'm going to fix some of my body work, this was my first big build on a bike, and repaint. I'll likely paint the fairing then.

Do you think the plastic is just "painted" black? or do you think it is actually black plastic? I would like to be able to see through it ideally... but what could look really cool is to paint part of it white and leave a section the see through black...

I think i just solved my own problem :)

There are some with clear sheilds or various other colors of tint. The sheild on mine is smoke. You can see the top of my gauges through it in the picture.

The bottom half is black plastic all the way through. I scratched the inside pretty good with one of the brackets putting it on.

The brackets just hook onto the forks?

the 81 headlight bucket bolts from the side and the backets on go that.

There's a link in this thread to the fork mounts.
