I just bought a 82 xj650 maxim. I'm looking to learn how to work on this bike. I have the shop manuals and some background in car repair. Anyone that is willing to help or wants to learn along with me in the Massachusetts area, let me know.

Hey Man, I am not horribly far away, and have a little experience in repair on these bikes, I bought one last year to rebuild but got tired of continued problems with getting it running, so I just bought another of the same that is working and needs only minor things adjusted like cables, oil change, shaft fluid change, maybe brake replacement and a rebuild of petcock. Have rebuilt the previous carbs, rebuilt front brake, and am fairly comfortable with simple things.

    I have a complete 85 XJ700
    It has good Hitachi carbs.
    Bike is in Central NH
    Bow, New Hampshire

It was a "Rat Bike" project my son (and I) started.
The engine (at one time) ran with carb cleaner sprayed down carbs.
    Carbs needed overhaul, so
I took them off, cleaned them up
bought new jets, float valves, gaskets, ect about $200
Then my son joined the army
Bikes has been sitting outside for 4 or 5 years.
The Carbs are off and stored inside.
I'll sell you the the whole bike including new carb parts
for $150 That sless than the new carb parts would cost.

Here is a pix of bike from a couple years ago.

It's in sad shape, good parts bike or rat bike project.
I never rode it so don't ask silly questions.
I would rather it go to a good home than my scrap metal dealer.

I'm not going to monitor this site so
