    Hi & Happy New Year,

My old speedo cable broke and I have a NOS one to replace it with. I should probably lube the cable before installing it. What's a good lube for cables?

    Thanks.

Since it is basically a sealed unit almost any type of decent lubrication can be used-even motor oil. I use Dupont Chain-Saver Teflon based cable lube that won't attract dirt and doesn't come off easily. It comes out wet and you saturate 'whatever' until it is everywhere-then let it dry and assemble. It can be found just about anywhere.

Word of caution though because it's a Teflon polymer you don't want to inhale it, so wear a mask or respirator while your spraying or don't breathe. Once it has dried there is no problem, but breathing in teflon is not a good idea. The stuff is amazing though, I use it on my chain saw (and my 550's chain) and dirt just won't stick to it at all.

I use PJ1 cable & chain lube as my standard 'go-to' for basic lubrication needs -- it's been working great for years.
