My old cable snapped because of rusting, so i want to make sure that the new one i just ordered is properly lubricated. What kind of lubrication should i use and how should i apply it?

Any good lube which DOES NOT MEAN WD40.

    Personally, I use Tri-Flow for pretty much all cables: http://www.triflowlubricants.com/Tri-Fl ... icant.html

You can even use motor oil. (Preferred for the tach cable as it gets HOT.)

Slide the inner cable out and lay it on a line of paper towels so it doesn't pick up any dirt.

Suspend the outer cable from one end, and either dribble (motor oil) or spray (spray lube) your lubricant of choice into the top until it dribbles/runs out the bottom. Let it drip for a while.

Apply some more of your chosen lubricant to the inner cable; reassemble. The little "stop" collar goes on the bottom (wheel) end. Put a small dollop of grease on the little stop collar before you push the inner back in all the way.

TIP: When you tighten up the knurled collars at the ends of the cable, use a small wrench to hold the cable (the ferrule has flats on it) to keep it from turning as the collar is tightened. If you let the cable turn as the collar is tightened, it can "preload" the cable sheath, effectively "winding it up" so that it will try to unscrew itself once in service.

    Or not.

The site's gonna move to a new "platform" soon and the boss (SnoSheriff) promises we'll get that kind of stuff sorted then.

Meanwhile, check "XJ FAQ Suggestions" for all sorts of good tech articles; and ask questions if you can't find stuff.

    You're welcome, BTW.
