Hey all, i just ordered a mac 4-1 header for my 82 xj650. i couldn't find a kerker or supertrapp or would have gotten those. oes anyone have experience with these pipes as far as sound quality and performance? also am getting a muzzy slip on can donated by a friend and i was wondering about compatibility with the bike as far as fitting under the pegs. thanks

The Mac pipes sound OK. They are a little louder than stock. The biggest problem with them is fitment. You may need to "tweek" them a bit and they will turn blue easily. I'm going to Jet-hot my stock headers and collector and use 2 sportster mufflers.

I have the 4-2s and they were easy to install and ya agree they are a little louder than the stock pipes. I didnt; have any problems fitting them. Only problem is not over torqueing them or the rings will bend. And yes, mine are blueing at the header intake already. The other issue is that as opposed to the stock pipes, you have to remove the cans in order to get at the rear wheel bolts.

I just got my new Mac on this week, i'll take a video so you can hear after i get her carb sync'd (lumpy idle right now).

Mine fit fairly good, had to bend the hanger out a little so the center stand didn't rub on it when up.

Thanks guys I'm excited about it. To krs14 where did you get the conversion kit for your oil filter? I hate the stock setup though I bet it will be easier with the 4 into 1.

    Len carries them (XJ4ever)

Here's the quick vid I did this afternoon. Not quite sure why it sounds so out of sync, I just did the sync this morning and it seemed fine, guess i'll have to check my plugs, maybe the sync threw my pilot mixes out a touch (Vac change). Pulls fine under load, nice and smooth.

That does sound good! Nice long vid too :). I'm expecting mine this thursday, I'll take before and after vids for ya and post them (as soonas I figure out how to post vids that is.). There's a pic of my bike on my profile as it sits. Do you know if the 4 into 2 with the chrome dumps that it has is the stock setup?

Stock for Seca is 4 into a collector box, then 2 out. Maxim I believe is 4-2 with a crossover pipe after the merge of 2 on either side.
