I just started tearing down the carbs on my parts bike. It appears that someone else has attempted a rebuild using the screwdriver and pliers from a Leatherman.

Luckily they weren't in horribly tight, so I was able to get them out without adding significantly to the damage.

That's the worst set. The 'upper' side on all of them is fine. Carb 4 is about half that bad. Are those salvageable, or do I need new jets?

Also, 3 of the float valve screens are 'bowler hat' shaped, one is flat. All appear to clean up fairly well--should they all match?

Just order new ones from xj4ever if they are that messed up you don't know for sure if the PO cleaned them with a drill bit and made the jet size larger.

I would think that if all the damage is to the outside and the passages are not damaged, you could re-use them if you don't want to spend the $ for new ones. As far as the screens are concerned, I don't think is matters as long as they are clean. The domed ones just take longer to completely clog. I would be sure to use and inline fuel filter in any case.
