manual timming chain adjuster clarification

    hey guys, got intot he bike this week end, im going to adjust the timming chain, heres how i think it works tell me if im wrong, i remove the left side engine cover to find the timming marks, set it to the apropriate mark, then loosen the adjuster jam nut, when the nut is loose the spring will push out the plunger and take up the slack then tighten the jam nut, is this correct
