So... I have this questionable master cylinder. It has the NISSIN14 cast right into it, so getting braided brake lines would fit since stock master cylinders are also NISSIN 14mm??

XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim North American models (single-disc): the cylinder body will have the size 14 (meaning a 14mm bore) and the word NISSIN cast into it along the rear face of the piston bore.

Also... I want to rebuild, but I believe all of the kits chacal carries are for stock master cylinders with a sight window???

OR, maybe mine IS stock for and 81 650 Maxim?!?! I just don't know!

That looks nothing like the master cylinder on my 82 XJ650. I would say you have an aftermarket piece there.

If your'e not worried about it being an aftermarket, I would go for one of these.

You can find them on ebay for about $25.00. Some even come with an extra rebuild kit which is not a bad idea to get. I purchased a different version of these Chinese M/C's for one for one of my other bikes. It replaced the original. It works awesome in comparison. I don't think you can find a rebuild kit for an OEM M/C for cheaper than purchasing this one new. On the other hand, if you are doing a restoration to original stock, that is a different matter.

You've sold me! Thanks! Are they really up to par with the original????
Would there be much difficulty fitting the braided lines to this???

Fit should be fine if listed for your bike, as long as its for 7/8" handle bar. And I think you said 14 mm (single disk), right? The shape looks like it is made to fit for your handle bar rake. But you will have to confirm all that. If you plan to change to a euro bar or superbike bars you may want consider a different profile M/C more appropriate for the angle. The lines should not be an issue. Again, unless you change the handle bars.
I can't make a direct comparison to my original. I rebuilt my original and it never felt great. It also had a very small leak or more like a dampness over a weeks time. Thereby, prompting me to replace it. The new one is worlds better, firmer. The old one felt spongy in comparison. But like I said, it probably wasn't up to full working order. Keep in mind, these would be coming form China (as with any reproduction), so it took mine a couple of weeks to get here. You can buy the same product from a US vendor for around $32.
