I'm having a problem removing this sight glass window. I figured it would pop out, but that would be too easy. As you can see, I've mangled it and I'm afraid if I keep it up I'll mess up the sealing surface. Is there an easier way than prying with a screwdriver? It's still pliable enough so that a screwdriver went through it and pliers can't get ahold of it. Would a soak in carb cleaner do it? Anything? By the way, I did search first, as I always do but most posts just said it's a bear and that was it.

What have you got to glue the new glass in?? I still waiting to tackle mine but can't find what glue to use, so not game to go near it while it's not leaking.

Keep working at it carefully, the window is pressed in. Its a pain to get out all the pieces, be patient. Use small tools to break the window out a little at a time. I like to keep the slotted dics intact and reuse it. I think it makes for a better looking installation.
I use epoxy to glue the new window in. It has not failed me and I have done quite a few of these.

I may try a dremel with a small tipped grinding stone to carefully remove what's left. Then maybe soak the adhesive in brake cleaner. The new adhesive will be what Chacal sold me, Dynatex dynablack RTV silicon gasket maker. His part # is HCP3120.

There is no adhesive on the old sightglass, just a press fit. Some did have snap ring retainers. You will have to remove all the window slowly bit by bit. The old sight glass has a o-ring grove made into it, thats what is keeping it in. The metal plate with the slot is part of the sight glass assembly. I have found that the new glass fits better if you can re-use that part.

I read that. My buddy used an exacto knife and was carving out the center when it started to rotate in the housing. he said it was easy to pop out then. I'm waiting on the engine enamel to dry before I reassemble it. Looks great!
