Master cylinder

    Im looking for a master cylinder for an 82 xj750 any help would be appreciated

    I presume you've been to EBAY....Can I ask where is the original one - perhaps it can be made serviceable again?

    still on the bike, i went to my local yamaha shop and he told me that a rebuilt kit may or may not work so rather than go thru a bunch of BS i was just trying to find a new one or a used one that was still useable, yes i checked e-bay found aftermarket stuff that had you to have adapters and all kinds of crap

    Don't understand why a rebuild kit wouldn't work....is the reservoir broken or some other reason why a rehab wouldn't work?

    Check with Len Chacal, he's got all that stuff and great advice to boot.

    according to the guy at the local shop the bore gets all pitted up and its hard to get them seal up and work properly...he is kind of a d--- and might have been blowin smoke maybe i need to take it apart and check it out.. i was just tryin to take the easy way out... im a mechanic by day and dont like workin on my own crap especially when you fix something and it doesnt work ( just wizzes a person off )... if i dont have any luck ill check with Len

    Pull it apart and check the bore....easy job and quicker than all the time spent looking for a whole replacement....not to mention cost

    While having an MC bore get pitted from sitting for 20 years with water in it is possible, it's not often heard of. And the few that do get pitted usually can be cleaned up by a bit of polishing.

    Should take less than an hour, but it only takes about 10 minutes to pull it apart and inspect it.

    I know this thread is old, but I was just discussing this issue with my father inlaw.
    A shop is usually going to say replace the master cylinder instead of talking about a possible rebuild with it. If your not a DIYer then that is the cheapest route for a MC with a shop. I dont think he was being a dick I think he was looking out for you and the shop. Itll endup costing slightly more in labor to rebuild it "properly" with attention to detail than just replacing it with another unit. Its the hourly labor that can kill your pocket. At the same time, I believe that a caliper is a different story.

    Its not difficult to pull it apart at home to determine if a rebuild is doable. If one runs into troubles, this is the place for help :)
