    Hello mates!

I´m new on this forum, so my apologize but i obviously don´t know how to use "Search"...

I have Yamaha Xj 650 yearmodel 1982, i´m about to modify it to a scrambler.

Can someone tell me what is the maximum width for rear tyre? Rim is 18 inches... i think
that a standart tyre is 120/80/18

Driveshaft would be the first problem......

Any tips would be nice to have!

Actually i checked my tyres again....

rear tyre 130/70/18 at the moment..
There is 10mm gap between the tyre and the driveshaft..... so what would be the max width for rear tyre, without scrathing...?

    130. Any wider and there will be rubbing on the driveshaft housing. Also, not all 130 width tires will fit without rubbing. look for tires that have a smooth transition from the tread to the sidewall.

The figures you are computing with the aspect ratio (the number after the /) are for the sidewall height, not for the tire width. The width is the first number, and as you pointed out will vary some from one tire style to another, form one manufacturer to another, and some cases from one otherwise identical tire to another.

When I bought my bike it came with a 130/90 18, Never rubbed, I can't remember what make it was. I have since mounted a Bridgestone S11, 130/90 18. It is not on the bike yet, so hopefully it fits OK. I will let you know in a day or two.
Mine is also an XJ650RJ Seca

Mounted the tire setup above, no rubbing issues on mine with the 130/90-18 S11.
