I bought a new engine off of ebay from an 82 maxim 750 and I want to put the 750 in my 650 bike. Is it gonna fit and what problems could I run into? (I havent picked it up yet)

    thanks,
    ColdSteel.

The motor should fit. I did it once with no problem. The wire harness pluged in with no hasle.I didn't inform the inshurance company so if some thing happend and thay found a 750 in my 650 bike it whould be nill and void. Some food for thought but it will fit and good luck.

It will fit just fine, without any problems.

    However...
You may run into minor tach/oil level sender issues (both curable), and you'll need to rejet your carbs to 750 specs if your new engine doesn't come with its' own carbs. Both bikes use the same carbs; their internal jetting is very different.

The 750 engine is a wee bit taller, so the carb to airbox connectors will be barely long enough unless you have the 750's airbox. It'll take a bit of persuading to match things up.

The shifter is in a different location.

    I just put a 650 motor into a XJ750..

On the 650 the shifter comes out at the rear of the case.
On the 750 it comes out in the middle of the case.
    See picture link below.

The red arrows point the shifter shaft.

The 750 bike has a shift lever with a bellcrank, and the 650 doesn't.
Anyway the 650 works fine, and the shifter is in the right location.

Going the other way you may need the 750 bellcrank assembly.

Both pictures are of the same bike.
