Can someone post some close up pictures of their Maxim back rest? Are they
interchangeable and do these fit other XJ models and years? I'm wondering if
it's a good idea on fabricating a set.

I know of someone who built one out of square tubing. It looked pretty good - had a nice high sissy bar on it. The one I have incorperates a tail rack...

    Yes.

I also would like to see some with the adjustable back rack. Close ups as how/where it attaches would be nice.

HRM - alright... I do have the adjustable... I do have snow tho so I don't think I can help you immediately. If you're still looking when the snow has gone I'll be more than happy to measure it up and take pictures.

If you look at my hockey picture you can see the tub the backrest slips into.

It mounts to the rear shocks, and the indicator stalks. [The stalks get shifted out and back into new spots.] The third mount point in when the licence plate goes... the plate mounts over it.

I attached a sissy-bar and pad purchased on ebay. I couldn't find the correct bolt extension for the front shock mount, so I had to drill and tap the existing grab bar. You can see the picture in the photo gallery section. It is blue and it was loaded on feb 13, 2006. Hope it helps a little.

I will try to post a few pictures this next week of my factory back rest and luggage rack. The previous post pics show the same mount for mine. More to come...

Ditto, guess they are the same. I'm not fond of the securing nuts but the system does work. Tore out the side of my pouch though. Gotta sew that up some time (lesson on wrapping your screwdriver and needlenose pliers in a rag before you stuff them in the pouch).

I have an XJ backrest with rack on mine that I'm willing to sell if anyone is interested. I also have a set of hard bags and mounts.

What model bike do you have? Do you have any pics? I might be interested in the backrest with rack.

I am also looking for a backrest. I have these pics from off ebay that I was thinking of using to fabricate one. Do other XJ's share this mounting system or is the 700 different? Can I mount a backrest/rack to my fender sides/shock mounts.

I just bought an '82 Maxim 550 - It had a sissy bar with luggage rack combo. I took it off, because I didn't like that look at all. Sold it to a fellow XJ'er
