I am no spring chicken, and the position of the pegs and shifter on my 650 Seca makes it a bit uncomfortable to ride. Has anyone heard of using Maxim peg mounts, pegs, shifter cover, shifter parts and brake lever on a Seca? I know it will alter the handling a bit due to the more forward set peg position, but with the artheritis in my knees it would make riding much easier. BTW, I don't just putt with my bikes. I have ridden for 13 hours straight with only gas stops recently on a different bike. I want to be able to ride this Seca, not just make short hops with it. This is the reason for my question.
I have bought all the parts I think I'll need, but I am just wondering if anyone has heard of it being done.
    Thanks

    Dave

If they will interchange I'll trade you for the ones on my 82 1100 maxim!

I already have all the Maxim parts for the swap from a 650 Maxim. I don't even think parts from an 1100 will work on a 650.

I know just how you feel. I always hated the seating position of the Seca with the footpegs directly under me. I know there are riders who actually like the sport bike seating postition, but It's just not for me.
I would suggest you go with some kind of forward controls. There are some out there that you can adapt to your bike. (I made my own)
I think there are some on Ebay that will fit on your bike. I have the same problem with my knees getting stiff after an hour or so and I don't have that problem anymore since I moved my pegs forward, even with the header pipes. >PD<

PainterD, can you send some close-up photos of the forwatd controls you made? MAybe I can work something like that out easier than modding to use the Maxim controls.

OK, I used soem parts off of an old Maxim I have here. Mainly all I did was used 1/4" flat stock to make two mounting brackets comomg off the front motor mounts, just behind the headers. Then I mounted the pegs (mini-floorboards now) on the brackets. Then I mounted the shifter and brake peddles on pivots below the pegs and ran the control arms back from there. I used 3/8" round stock for the brake rod and 1/4" round stock for the shifter rod. I had to thread the ends enough so I could adjust the peddles once I got everything together.
Here's some photos I took a while back. Not the best, but you will get an idea just how it's done:
