I did some searching and didn't come up with much on this topic, so i figured i'd post. Apologies if the answers were buried in the archives somewhere.

I broke one of the tank badges off my 82 650 maxim, and i need a replacement.

There are some yamaha badges for sale on ebay that look close, but i'm curious what model bikes i can use badges from.

The only "new" tank badges that i can find on the internet cost $40 each, which is far too much, as i could get new ones from a dealer for that price.

Anyone know where to find these, or if any badges are interchangable from other bikes?

I got mine from the dealer for $25.00 each.
As far as I know only the emblems from an 81,81,83 maxim will fit.

Or ... you can make a Plaster of Paris cast of the good one. When the Plaster cures ... you take-out the old badge and have a mold for the new one. Fill the mold with the vinyl used to coat handles of tools ... there's several brands. You wind-up with your own casting. Trim, paint nice and stick on tank. Save "the good" mold.

How hard does the vinyl your talking about dry?

I've used a liquid latex in other applications but it certainly wasn't anything durable.
