    Hi All,

I used to ride a Suzuki and I if I was stupid enough to stall it, I could restart the engine by pressing the clutch lever and then starter button.

For some reason my '85 Maixm X 700 does not even attmpt to restart if it is in 1st (or any other) gear, even when the clutch lever is completely pressed. I need to put it in neutral and then it starts fine.

Is this normal behavior, or do I need to do a health check on some clutch lever switch or something. Do these bikes even have a switch on the clutch lever?

You are correct - sounds like the clutch switch isn't working properly. Follow the wire from the handle to where it plugs into the harness (from memory I think this is in the headlight).

Disconnect it. Put your leads from a multimeter into the ends of the disconnected clutch switch connector and set your meter to check for continuity. Pull and release the clutch to look for the change of state.
