what temp is it running? can you give any further detail? i dont think you will get better cooling from pulling the thermostat.. more likley you will overheat as a result of it.

It's normal. My fan doesn't come on until the needle is almost in the red.

Not to threadjack, but it's kinda related.

    a) Where does your temp needle sit when cruising down the freeway at, say 65, and;
    b) How quickly does your temp needle jump when sitting at a stop light?

    Hey schmuck,

When did you get a Maxim-X?

When cruising it sits right at the notch in the middle. Going to work in the 90 degree weather the last few days it goes up and gets hot enough for the fan in about a minute.

    And jimbo,

I noticed that about my X too when I first got it. I made a comment here about how it generally seemed a lot hotter than my Seca 650. They just seem more warm-blooded. I think part of that might also only be perception. Because of the lack of cooling fins, you feel the heat more on your legs as you sit.

Well, that won't take long, did it? :)

Last year. I've just now put a shade over 3000 on it.

Okay, great. I'm running about normal, then -- actually, a little cooler than that, more often than not.

mine as well when it is warmed up the needle sits in the notch as it was called. It won't jump into the red at a normal red light. but in the 90 degree heat if you get caught a long light the fan may come on. I think you pay more attention because of hte guage as where the airhead machines don't have one. Although I have seen a susuki with an oil temp guage from the factory and thought that was neat.(its an 82 gs750)

My Maxim-X will cook my butt long before the fan comes on in >90 deg weather.

I need to change the coolant soon and I bought some "Water Wetter" which is a coolant additive that is supposed to make it run even cooler. The bike is not having any problems but I feel like a rump roast sometimes.

If it worries you that much, you can run a manual fan switch straight from the battery. My V45 Sabre had such a switch and I used it anytime I was in traffic.

Don't run without a Thermostat ... that would just make it worse.
Pull the Plugs and see what the story is.
If the Plugs are too clean ... you need to adjust your Mixtures.

Pull the Plugs and Post a close-up picture of the Business Ends 1 thru 4
Lets see what they look like.

Ok I have installed a little switch on the right side where the little plastic piece is where u fill up the rad. I it a little black on/off switch and u can turn the fan on manully at and time while sitting in traffic. when u turn the switch off then the fan will run normally it is great and works well and i can keep the bike cool. jimbo
