I checked out fabricating one with a buddy who builds custom bikes. We also thought about doing a tube collector. Wound up buying an excellent used one with all the donuts for 75$ shipping included. Search the forum, there is a link showing how to fab one. Don`t know about the back pressure issue.

well, I know there is some kind of baffling in it but what I was curious about was is the baffling for sound or flow and is there a common area all four cylinders share? I've taken off the head pipes and tail pipes and looked inside and it has some purpose. I just havent figured out what it is yet. I like the twinn pipes look, and the ground clearance of the stock system better then 4 in to one headers but can the stock setup be made more efficient?
I may fabricate my own 2-1 twinn headers just to cut down on the weight and increase flow but how much room for improvement over stock is there?

What bike exactly are we talking about?

If you're talking about the collector box as found on the 550s, the 650 Seca and a lot of the 750s, yes, there is some "magic" in there.

The collector box is designed to aid scavenging and "fool" the exhaust system into thinking it's longer than it is. The baffling is for both sound and flow, as the sound waves bouncing around affect flow, and can be "put to work" to good advantage. The collector box does that.

Thanks guys, I thought it was for one or the other but not both. Almost like a resonator/collector.
When I looked online at it, it didn't even have a name
