Working on doing a Dragon's Tail run around the end of July beginning of August. I have my personal reason for the run (On my ride list for Bill and me). Not looking for a somber memorial run but a celebration of a shared passion for riding...

Oh man, Dave, if only Deals Gap wasn't so far away! I already have my big ride planned for this year, (Glacier NP, Flathead Lake, etc.) but the Dragon and the Blue Ridge Parkway are definately on my bucket list! Maybe next year.

Keep an eye out for road closures... check out Killboy's webpage - seems that the road is closed until they can fix a rock slide hazard.

The Dragon is closed until futher notice, talked to one of the resort owners yesterday and they haven't been given any info on when the road will be reopened. Me and some friends were going the first of April, but that has been put on hold, now just trying to get our money back.

What about the cherohala skyway. From what I have heard it is the Dragon's tail for cruisers and it is still one of the places a biker has to see. I would love to try my wheels on the dragon but I am actually more interested in the Cherohala ride which is also in deals gap. I'd be up for it.

Wow. Never heard of cherohala before (being from California) but looked it up on line. What a beautiful road. Too bad it's clear across the country :-(

The tail of the dragon is like THEE road, known everywhere in the world for its 318 curves (most very defined curves which is a knee dragger's heaven) in 11 miles with a huge elevation difference. It is where any rider can really have a chance to get their "twisties" rocks off and test their ability. I can't die never having tried it sometime in my life. The cherohala Skyway is also known for its well defined curves but more so for the fantastic scenery. It's the best example of a mountain ridge road I have ever seen. You always see them in movies and pictures, the road winding along the mountainside, etc. this one has everything. I couldn't go to deal's gap without riding up and down that a few million times.

Yeh saw the closure notice... :x  can't last forever... Planned on going around the end of July 1st week of august to coincide with Bill's loss... But I know it wouldn't bother Bill one bit if I/we scheduled this run a different time... He would just be happy we did it... I can see his big grin now... My family and biz partner all know that I will make this ride... period! 1200 miles up and back and whatever I can burn while there!! 8)

ALL ARE WELCOME!!! I can't think of a better way to honor Bill and celebrate our joy of riding than this legendary run...

Chuckles... I'll check out your alternate suggestion. I just can't believe that as nice as it is up there that The Dragon is the only sweet ride... My humble opinion is that they both need to be run!!

Me and some buddies are doing the Red River Rally in Kentucky from July 16 through July 18. Sometime during our time there (a long weekend sort of a vacation) we are going to do the Dragon Tail.

Ok so the plan begins to come together... I will be dropping my son at my other brothers for week of fun with his cousins while my sweety and me run over to ride. So, it is looking like the last week in July or 1st week in August.
