I sold my xj750, and while I can (for reasons unknown to me) use the xs650 speedo I got with my new CB125s project, I can't use the ignition pulse tachometer.

I know this will work with any xj750 (tested, it worked on mine) and probably any other ignition pulse tachometer. If your tach has no cable, this is what you need. It's small and sleek.

I paid $85 shipped. It's brand new, only fitted once to make sure it worked (no actual miles, as the bike was in pieces the whole time)

I'll let it go for $50 shipped. It's in brand new condition. No scuffs or scratches.

Here's how it looks with the speedo on an xj750

    hey pop,

when you mounted that speedo did you splice on the original connector or just solder it into the wiring.. either way i would be interested in the wiring diagram as i will need a new speedo myself but in Km\h and wondered as when i saw one it has more wires than the orginal harness.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Grynen, I just put those exact gauges on my XJ750, I'd be willing to help you out a bit. I have the Haynes so I should be able to figure out the differences between our 2 bikes.

Yes, the Mikesxs ones have more wires, but it's mostly grounds for everything.

    Re: mikexs tachometer

More wires = more grounds. each light has its own ground (same color as the light, just with a black stripe. So neutral is green, neutral ground is green/black)

There should be the same number of "hot" wires as in your bike (excluding the LCD computer)

Oil warning, neutral, high beam, turn signal, gauge lighting.

The only thing to consider, since your bike has a separate hot lead for either side of the turn signal (since you have two lights on the dasy, one for either side) is that you'll need two 5w diodes if you plan on switching to a gauge that just has one light to let you know your signals are on.

Example: xj750 cluster. Note the two lights, one on either side, for their respective turn signals.

And the new gauge. Note the single light for the turn signals.

You need diodes (basically one-way systems for electricity) to stop the voltage when you turn on your left signal from bleeding over into the right side, so the diodes block the flow backwards into the other side, while still allowing voltage to flow into the gauge while they're on.

    It looks exactly like this

But remember, if the gauge you're putting on has TWO lights for the turn signals, you don't need to do this step.

You can get those diodes at radio shack for about a dollar.

They're quality parts. If you're interested in having a tach to go with it, I still have it :D
