Hey guys. So I stripped the darn butterfly screws on one of the carbs and can't get the buggers out now so I can change the shaft seals. Anyone have any helpful tips on how to remove them? I'm thinking of drilling them out with a small drill bit. Any other suggestions welcomed. Also, does anyone know where I can get some replacement screws or what size they are? Maybe I can match them up at home depot or lowes?

Yeah. I wish I would have noticed that before I tried to unscrew them. It's only one carb. Once I stripped them I walked away. Didn't touch the others. I wasn't going to even try. The shaft is fine since the screws didn't even move. It's a 1993 XJ600 SECA II

I'll check out his webpage. Thank you!

Superglue helps. Glue the driver to the screw head and you might be able to break them loose.

No Didn't strip the slots. I stopped immediately once I couldn't get a good grip on the screws so they're not actually entirely stripped. I still might be able to get them out with the JIS screwdriver and by filing down the other end as I should have from the start but for now as to avoid making things worse, I'm not touching them.

I spoke to Len last night. The vacuum leak may just be from the carb boots which I already have on order. I might try those first before I start braking the rack down. Knowing the way I am though, I'll probably end up changing the shaft seals anyway. I don't like doing things half a$$ if ya know what I mean. Might as well while I have the carbs off the bike and they're probably well past their prime and well worn. Can't hurt. I already had them apart last year, cleaned em, replaced every other seal and gasket and adjusted them. I didn't do the shaft seals because I didn't want to mess with those screws. I should have just done it then. ugh

Really? Super glue on metal? Never would have thought of that.
