    Hi all!
First of all I want to thank you guys for all the information and guides for everything related to xjs and their sensitive emotions lol
    You guys rock!

anyhow, I’m currently working on my 82 XJ550. The #2 carb has always ran rich because of a loose pilot jet from previous owner. (Last year)
Come to find out on carb rebuild that the threads inside the pilot hole are stripped and bare . Other 3 are good and working
Soo I believe my two options are..

Helicoil M6x.5 kit w bottom tap
Or take it to local machine shop
Whichever is more logical / cost effective
But I’ve having a hard time finding a helicoil or new sleeve for the the threads. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
I’m pretty handy w tools but don’t want to muck this up.
    Any imput would be wonderful.
    Thanks guys!

    Hi @BrandonTroy

This sounds like a good question for @hogfiddles.

I'm not sure if this is a repairable thing or not - or if the best option would be to source a replacement body.

Here's an idea; Permatex and or Loc-tite make epoxie thread repair kits, they claim 85% original thread strength.
Check out, Grainger, McMaster-Carr, Auto parts store.
Maybe, maybe not, will work for you, check it out.

Thanks for the replies so far
Going to call a shop on Monday to see what the damage would be to put a new sleeve in. Who knows what they’ll suggest.

Also thought about finding a larger jet w the same diameter hole and maybe tapping carb body to fit that?
Looks like I might have to go about the epoxy method of not…

I replace the body. I’m not gonna mess with a screwed up thread.

M6 must be pilot jet in the float chamber area not the mixture needle screw no? I'd try the epoxy, maybe, but bathed in fuel.. hmm.

Yes, threads to the pilot jet in the fuel bowl area. Mixture screw has finer threads I believe.
I’ll keep an eye out for a used carb body on eBay and marketplace.
Thanks for suggestions guys it’s much appreciated!

thought maybe I could fabricate a sleeve for a new jet to tap and thread that down into the original hole..

If not, might try form- a- thread. Seen some good reviews. Says it’s gas resistant. Seems to be in the videos. Key in this situation is to use as little as possible and keep the jet from getting clogged w a needle of some sort..
