So I see on my learner's permit that I am barred from freeways. What is a freeway? Only interstates or anything above 65mph or anything with a on/off ramp? Here is where the law says I cannot:

"...(3) drive the motorcycle on any highway marked as an interstate highway pursuant to title 23 of the United States Code; or..."

So I think/hope this is only interstates, like I-94 and I-35? Anyone know for sure?

Freeway = Interstate Highway = I + a number identifier on the road sign/ map = No-Toll. You're likely also barred from limited access, publicly owned, multi-lane toll roads though.

    If it looks like this:

    you can't ride on it...yet.

If you want to get precise about it:

Toll, or no toll - makes no difference.

Also, while there are no toll roads, there is the fast lane on I35W that you pay to drive in. It's free for motorcycles, though.

And that's the pretty part of the state

The LA pic is the first linkable image that I found of a typical urban freeway.

I don't think that comes into play here...the restriction said to refer to USC 23, not MN 160.02. USC 23 refers to interstates.

Learners' Permit? I know of many without motorcycle endorsement (I'm not one of them). Many that have been stopped and not cited. Sure wouldn't want ot get one of those tickets but it doesn't seem to be a priority for local or state bears.

You may be right. I stayed off all divided highways, since I have no desire to try and explain these things to a cop, should I get pulled over.

Well, there's one thing to be said for Kansas... if it hadn't been for the state Board of Education, we wouldn't have this:

It varies widely from State to State.

Here in Michigan a cycle endorsement is "required" but not enforced or should I say selectively enforced. It's also a complete joke, testing-wise, that has no correlation to one's ability to operate a motorcycle on the street. Here, it's simply another way for the state to take your money. I've been pulled over on my bike any number of times and no cop has ever so much as even mentioned that I don't have one.

I think it's great that there are states with real motorcycle licensing requirements and graduated licenses like that, with things like freeway restrictions. I would expect that it does indeed accomplish the desired result, of keeping novice riders safer until they develop the necessary skills.

Instead, here in Michigan we repealed our helmet law and were rewarded with an 18% increase in motorcycle accident fatalities even with a 4% overall decrease in motorcycle accidents.

Lack of a helmet law I don't have very much of a problem with. I'm kinda attached to my head and would like for it to stay the shape it is. If someone is less sentimental about it, who am I to stand in his way?

Yea. Can't believe it, but when I first got my bike, the PO left his tag on... Dufus.

Anyway, a certain somebody rode with tags not in their name, no ins, and no license or leaders permit.

Can't believe they were such an idiot. Combined if would have even stopped, that's 1000$+ in fines, bike impounded, and taken right to jail.

Damn. Hindsight is 20/20, but at least nothing ever happened.

    Lucky bastard ;)

Here it's helmet under 18 with learners permit, and no riding at night or have a passenger unless they have their class m and 2 years of driving(car or bike) experience.

Which makes no sense, as just because the passenger would have their liscence does not make it okay/easier for someone to learn riding two-up IMO

If it looks like that why would you want to ride on it? I avoid those as much as possible. Something about the 4,500 lbs missiles going 70 mph + with an IQ of 6 that I don't like.
