Are our XJ mirrors 10mm thread? Is one of them left hand thread and the other right hand thread? If so, which one is which?

If you lay the mirrors down flat and look at the threads, right hand threads slope down and to the right, left hand threads slope down and to the left. The left mirror would have the left hand threads, so the mirror would tighten with the windblast.

Actually I believe it's just the opposite, I caught a wind blast from a truck one day and my mirrors weren't tight enough and both of them folded in toward me. I pushed them forward enough that they stayed until I could get a wrench on them.

The left mirror, at least on my Seca, is right hand thread (righty tighty, lefty loosy). And the right mirror is left hand (righty loosy, lefty tighty), doesn't rhyme very well that way does it?

Left hand thread on the mirrors is a Yamaha oddity (I've never seen it on any other bikes, check out the catalogs for mirrors, they always have the odd-ball "for Yamaha only" on a few of the selections). I think it is wisdom to remain with the same thread direction myself (have any of you got a reverse thread tap to fix these things? I did at one time but like an idiot, I gave it away). I'll also chime in with Nick, 10mm looks right.

They are M10x1.25 UNF (Fine threads) and yes the left side is a RH (normal) thread and the right side (trhottle side) is a left hand thread. You can pick up some adapters that will allow you to put on some trick aftermarket mirrors if that is what you are looking at.
