The bike has 13,255 miles on it. Very well kept and clean. The guy wants $1000 for it which is less than anything I have seen on craigslist and ebay.
The thing is is he keeps telling me it's top speed is only 60mph. He believes it was governed by it's past owner. How would it be governed and how would I be able to tell if that is why it's top speed is so low?
I can't imagine the compression would be bad at less than 14,000 miles.
The bike seems nice all around but the top speed being around 60sounds creepy. He also said he had the carbs done. i know the guy well enough to know he wouldn't give me a line of crap about it. But he doesn't know much about bikes either other than how to ride them.
    Anyway... advise? Thanks.

    wth...

a 250 will go faster.... google the redline, see if it will do that, try yourself to see how fast with will go... but do a compression test before that, take out the airfilters, hold the throttle wide open and crank trhe motor over, but 1000 is a steal

I am really thinking 1000 bucks is worth it as long as the compression is good. I mean the bike blue-books for 3 times that much. The guy really doesn't know much about bikes at all. But yeah, definitely going to do all of the standard tests (well what I can with a v-twin. Don't know much about them).
I'll be going for a ride with it this week some time. We'll see.

That bike should be good for 110+ mph. Those 800s were some of the sprightlier v-twins for sale, certainly a lot ballsier than either the Vulcan or Virago of similar displacement. Good enough for a standard bike to be built around, the VX800. Sounds like someone mucked up the carburetion.

My buddies will run 95 with a medium windshield on it. He claimed 108 without it. I have not ridden it to verify this though.
