Yeah, that. It also says the '83 has an 18" rear wheel, which is incorrect. The blurb on the '82 talks about a 100/90-19 front; that would be a replacement tire not the original as Yamaha originally equipped all of these bikes with too-skinny front tires.

Somebody who really didn't know the breed was pulling specs from multiple sources including his own old XJ and trumpeting them as gospel. The weight thing is dry weight vs. curb ("wet") weight; different sets of specs often only use one or the other and don't say what it is.

Not uncommon. That highly-touted recent article on the 550 Seca in one of the Classic Bike publications was full of misinformation as well.

good to know about the curb/dry weight, hadant known the difference there.

And good catch on both the rear wheel size and tire size! I should have caught those, lol.

I've had a hard time finding accurate specs on the Maxim 750s especially, because a lot of these sites list the 750 X, because apparently you could get that, but not in the U.S. So every time I think I've found supposed specs for my bike I see "5 valves" and ignore it.

    quote -
"A rear drum took care of half of the Midnight Maxim's braking duties. Twin disks provided the rest of the bike's stopping power."

Just like "Bikez.com" - innacurrate statements written by amatuers.

"ehow" is a content farm -- they just throw crap up there, wait for people to find them on google, and watch the ad revenue roll in. I'd trust them about as far as I can throw my car.

Re: More power/bigger engines in an '82 maxim 750 than an '8

A bunch of gibberish indeed. A quote from the '82 link:

The motorcycle was produced as a response to Honda's V45 Magna, a market leader in the 750-cc bikes category.

The Magna was introduced in 1983.

    Also from the '82 link:

The Yamaha XJ 750 Maxim is a street cruiser motorcycle manufactured and sold from 1980 to 1985 by the Yamaha Motor Company Limited, a Japan-based motorized vehicle-producing company.

Now a contradiction from the '83 link:

The Midnight Maxim XJ750 first entered the market in 1981 and it survived for only two years before it was discontinued in 1983.

    And this:

This bike was also known as the Midnight Maxim or the Seca.

    Makes Wikipedia look good. :)

Did all of this make you think I would beat you in a race Chris? :D
