I'm taking the carbs apart for the second time to do a more thorough cleaning and bench sync to carbs.

I was going to bench sync them before i took them apart but when i tried to do that, any time i moved the throttle/butterflies they would stay stuck open and would not close unless i manually pushed them close. I did notice that the carbs needed to be synced.

I figured it was time to pull the carbs apart again and examine the throttle linkage and springs. I got the uppers and lowers apart and then played with the butterflies again and they are snapping closed on their own now??? They seem very normal and "springy" again, whats going on???

    Questions:
    1. What was causing the throttle/butterflies not to close

    2. Can I just put the carbs back together, or does something need to be fixed?

    3. I need some carb parts anyway, like the head pieces and screws due to rust damage. I live in Seattle, is there a good Seattle parts source or a good internet parts source people know of for Carb parts?

Best source for carb parts is Chacal on this site.

Why them linkages stuck......... anybodys guess.
Id suspect when they went together the 1st time they might have been in a bind. or not assembled quite right.

When they were coming apart, you should have noticed at what point they freed up and that could have narrowed it down some.

Contact Chacal, HE DA MAN when it comes to new carb parts.

    Good Luck

    Get some Marvel Mystery Oil.
Lube the Piviot Points to each Butterfly with a few drops of Marvel.
"Exercise" the Throttles after they are lubed.

Look for Crud on the Outsides of those Pivot Points.
Spray and toothbrush those Outside "Hinges" Clean.
    Oil them after.
    "Exercise" again.

Make sure that the Linkage Return Springs are sprayed and brushed clean.
If everything is moving like it should ... Bench Sybc the rack.

Use 1/4" Wide strips of Business Card cut widthwise.
Slide the strip under the Botton of 3
Adjust the "Feel" on 3 to a nice taunt or snug drag between the Fly and Carb Body by adjusting the Idle Adjustment Rod.
Adjust 4 to 3 with the Sync Screw for 4
    Then, 1 to 2
    Finally, 2 (which carries 1) to 3.

    Re-lube the whole rack.
Pivots, Hinges, Screws, Idle Rod ... etc.

Check the linkage by working the Throttle Cable Hook-up.

Bent Bike in Lynnwood has helped me out quite a bit for what I've needed.
