Anyone know if it's possible to rent just a helmet?

Unique situation - I'm taking a safety course to get my license, in another state. They provide the bike, but not the helmet.

By the way, if anyone lives in the las vegas area, and would be willing to lend/rent out a helmet, I promise I won't break it.

Not sure about renting one, but I'm sure you could pick one up off craigslist quite cheap.

I see them on the Denver CL for as low as $35 sometimes, and they are not in bad shape at all.

It is kinda surprising though that the place provides bikes, but not helmets.

If you dont already have a helmet...treat yourself to something nice and keep it for a good three years or so. A helmet is as good an investment as tires or brakes.
If you have one at home, have it shipped.
If thats not feasible, try the craigslist or simmilar idea.
Just a "heads up", wearing others helmet is not a fantastic idea.\
Besides the obvious things like stench and sweat, helmets conform to their owners. The foam and liner begin to take shape and decrease the amount of cusioning to someone else "diffrent shaped cranium".

I know it is only a fractional decrease in protection, but then again I dont want MY CRANIUM DECREASED a fraction. :)

Yeah, I know, generally not a good idea. But I don't feel like hauling my helmet across the country to take a two day parking lot course.

How picky are they about the helmet? I think you can pick up a motocross helmet at Pep Boys or Wal*Mart for about $50.

Check the denniskirk.com outlet store. They sometimes have helmets for very low prices that would do the job.

Just gotta be DOT approved. Think I found a place in vegas that rents out helmets for ten bucks a day, 50$ deposit. Eagleriders, or something like that. Should do the job.

Make sure to ask if they give discounts for AMA members.
That is of course if you are indeed an AMA member, but for my info too ;)

While I don't have a helmet to sell, whenever I see a CL want ad asking to buy someones used helmet, either for themselves or their kids, I reply and point them to www.motodirect.com. You just don't know if someone may have damaged it already, or if it is without parasites.
Especially looking for a kids helmet, you can bet kids aren't as carefull in the handling.

On the other end, I work with a guy who has eight $600+ helmets because they look nice. Eight - after he did sell a few!

Thats crazy, he better ride eight days a week.
One to go with each outfit.
They are really supposed to lose their usefulness after 36 months.

Even though an old beat up, dropped, kicked, drop kicked :) helmet is better that a ball cap or simmilar.

I bought one of those "MotoDirect" Helmets for last season. It was a great deal. They look and fit really nice. Very comfortable. It's one of their so-called 1/2-Helmets with open ears ... like Motorcycle Cops wear!

I really like it a lot and it didn't cost a fortune!

    $30 helmet = Scarey

I suppose it is better than a baseball cap, but by how much is debatable.

Get the best helmet you can afford and retire it after 3 to 4 years use or significant impact. Your life may depend on it!
