I am almost able to remove the motor, but have run into an issue. No matter what I try I am unable to remove the flange bolts. I have everything secured and the drive shaft isn't moving so I would think with my force the bolts would come free. I have put enough force into it, stopping just shy of what I feel would strip the bolt.

Will I hurt the drive shaft if I use something to try and loosen up the bolts? my motor is shot and I want to get if off the frame so I can repaint and fix the imperfections before I put the new motor in.

Thanks for the help. If there is already a thread about this, just point me in the right direction.

It should be the same as everything else. pull the motor forward or pull the 4 nuts that hold the differential on pull the housing back and it will slide right out of the coupler. Then pull the coupler off when the motor is out

The Haynes manual says to remove the flange bolts... am I missing something? The bolts seem to secure the motor to the rear drive, but maybe I am missing something?

the drive shaft is splined it will move in and out when the wheel moves up and down. If you pull the rear differential you will not loose any fluid. I had the same problem on a virago. When you reinstall the new motor put the differential and coupler on the drive shaft then bolt the flange together
