here is the story. I went for a ride with a friend to the north end of town to see a guy that came up with a program and hardware for a home made motorcycle exhaust sniffer. O2 sensor and all. Works pretty slick. We put my bike on the machine and found out it is about dead on at an idle but running pretty rich at 2000 rpm. This is where the emulsion tubes take over. My bike has about 43000 miles on it and was wondering what the odds are of the emulsion tubes being oval shaped inside instead of round. It gets rich very quickly, according to the graph. I have been through the carbs quite a few times. The last time I had them off I set the float levels. Everything is dead on. pilots are 4 turns out. This gives the engine a nice bunsen blue when color tuned. Runs great but rich once it gets past the pilot jets. Also kind of sluggish out of the hole then once past 2000 rpm hang on. It like someone turned on a swich for power. Does this sound like the tubes to you? The question here is is there a place to get the emulsion tubes for the hitachi carbs. Bike is a 82xj750 maxim. A big factor here is that Colorado Springs is at an average of 6000 feet above sea level. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. The rest of the specs on my bike are in my signature. Stock jets in the carbs by the way.

Out of round emulsion tubes would not be a problem. The tube gets it's fuel from the main jet that screws into it. The design of the tube is larger in diameter at the ends than the middle. This allows air to circulate and atomized the fuel through those little holes in the tube's side. So even out of round it should do it's job well.
I would moe suspect the "HomeMade Sniffer". Especially since a 4 to 1 and a K&N should make the stock jets run the bike lean.

I believe the altitude has something to do with the richness also. The plugs confirm it is rich. Not sooty but far from the tan they should be.
